Photography Tips

A good quality photograph is needed to produce a good quality portrait. The following tips should help if you are not sure what is needed:
  • Use a digital camera to take the photograph. Mobile phone cameras rarely produce good enough photographs to paint from.
  • Take the photograph in good, natural light. Try not to use a flash as this distorts the true colours.
  • Get close to the animal. The details of the eyes and nose must be clear.
  • Don't worry about the background. As long as the animal is clear then it does not matter what is happening in the background.
  • Try using squeaky toys or treats to capture good facial expressions.
Below are examples of good and poor photographs.
